Whether you are commuting for work/school, cycling for recreation or riding your cruiser around you are sure to find something that suits what you are looking for. Adding to the spectacular trails is the never ending scenery that exists all around you.

Commuting

Canmore has an amazing network of town trails to get you from your door to wherever you need go in town, be it work, the grocery store, the post office, or to run all your daily errands. We encourage you to leave your car at home, jump on your bike and experience all that our urban trails have to offer!

Urban Trails and Pathways

Canmore has over 80 km of scenic trails and pathways that connect our communities. These pathways are multi-use and provide the perfect place for cycling on a variety of asphalt, gravel, and natural surfaces. They provide the perfect opportunity to commute around town and to recreate and enjoy the mountains. Here are a couple of popular scenic trails in town:

Bow River Loop Trail –located two blocks from Main Street, this easy loop takes you along the shores of the Bow River, across our engine bridge and loops back to your starting point. Popular for strolling along the river, great for families and you can even stop and skip a few rocks in the river.

Three Sisters Pathway – this scenic trail takes you out and back along the Bow River. You can go as far as you like (total 6.7 km one way) and turn around the way you came.

Roadways

As a small community we recognize the importance of Active Transportation and are working to make it easier and easier for residents and visitors alike to access all parts of town on your bike. From new bike lanes, pathways, lighting improvements, and big push in new bike corals, arcs, lockers and maintenance stations in the downtown core it has never been easier to ride your bike around town.

Rocky Mountain Legacy Trail

The Rocky Mountain Legacy Trail is an unparalleled cycling experience. The multi-use paved pathway connecting the follows the Bow River and offers spectacular views of the valley and surrounding peaks. The scenic trail is approximately 23km in length from Main Street in Canmore to the heart of Banff. Expect to see families, beginners, and advanced users, on foot, on bikes, roller skis, and skateboards. Travel with care, share the trail, and be considerate of all users.
The official trailhead is located at the Travel Alberta Visitor Information Centre at 2801 Bow Valley Trail in Canmore.
